GOTY Picnic

Nothing is more ungentlemanly than neglecting a blog, my apologies. Please enjoy these photographs and videos from the GOTY picnic in place of a detailed post.

Beer Guy Instructional Video

Tonight is drinking night #2 and we will be facing off at Flip Cup and Beer Guy. Beer Guy is as complicated and as gentlemanly as Curling, and that's saying a lot. Look how gentlemanly these player are:

Evan and Tim in cooperation with YoCho Productions created an instructional video to help with the rules and also help avoid the same stress as last week (during the explanation for quarters rules). Please enjoy this informative video to understand more about the upcoming event.

February: Drinking

Last Tuesday was the first night of the drinking contest and I think we all got a bit spliffy.
Evan's true love is bracket making so he created a really great worksheet to be filled out. The seeding was determined by tossing three balls into cups designated with point values. Capital Reporting team came out on top! I was seeded first and Cate was seeded second so we each received a bye for the first round. Carly and Matt finished their game very quickly while Christina and Rubes battled until the end.

As the games progressed so did the drama. Rumblings of ungentlemanly-ness started. Remember, it is ungentlemanly to discuss issues with other participants and not discuss them with the accused directly. The overlord of the night, Gaffers, insisted that he would not issue any monacle cards based on heresy. He also offered some important words of advice:

We all gathered to watch the final round: Matt vs Rubes. I planned to tape the game for the website, but unfortunately the recording was cut short. An ungentlemanly act was captured on tape and submitted to Rob for his review:
A monacle card was issued to Rubes, he took the event as a gentleman and did not dispute the decision. It is unfortunate when these things happen but that’s why the cards exist. After the monacle card drama, Matt won the game. Here’s what the final Bracket looked like (please note the honey and beer stains).

Next, we moved on to quarters. We previously discovered that the plastic tables used for pong were no good for quarters. Evan and I tried practicing on the floor but that didn't work either. We decided to pair up at a bar ledge and once the quarter made the glass each player needed to run to the corner of the bar. It wasn't perfect but we made it work. Evan patiently and persistently tried to get the attention of the group to
explain the rules. It was really painful. One dude told me I was shouting. Once Evan finally got the rules out, games play began. Quarters was fairly uneventful except for when this happened:

Carmela won quarters in a face-off against Matt. He admitted that he was being ungentlemanly and trying to taunt her when she bounced the final quarter in. Lessons were learned.

Now that the business was over, we let loose and started having a
bit of fun. We played a few quick flip cup games with choreographed dances for the winners. Somewhere along the line the bartender poured us a final pitcher and left. We took that opportunity to visit the kitchen for croutons, Ice Cream and Pie.

We are all very exited for the next GOTY night. We decided to wear short shorts so Evan wouldn't have to take off his shoes again

The Fundraiser

There is a great deal to tell about DACCTTRANS GOTY. So much has happened and there is much to explain. First let’s review the fundraiser as the most exciting event to date:

This event was held at Boss Tweeds due to their low drink prices allowing us to make a higher profit without increasing the cost to our donors. All Gentleman and friends were invited to show their financial and emotional support by attending this event. For a one time contribution of $40 they received three hours of unlimited draught beer, mixed drinks and wine as well as the peace of mind that they contributed to the GOTY General Fund and the undying gratitude of your fellow gentleman. The GOTY General Fund is used to support GOTY related costs such as burlap sacks, hula hoops, eggs (plastic and fowl), popsicle sticks (and other bridge building materials), apple bobbing buckets and various other sundries.

Unfortunately the night of the fundraiser was also submission night for general accounting. We lost some numbers and it hurt the morale. Those who could arrived at 7:30 on the buzzer. We started our drinking and played our first games of flip cup. Turns out all-you-can-drink does not include pitchers. what? So we proceeded to order high volumes of cups and an empty pitcher to pour them into.

Next thing you know, the other group at the bar ordered 78 pizzas! We were so hungry and the pizza was smelling good. Carly sweet-talked the ringleader of the other bar people into giving us a pizza. He also offered Carly and Evan jobs at the company responsible for pop-up ads. Obv, they were not interested. Pizza was consumed and beers were drank.

Shortly after, the submission team arrived! Shortly after that, Karaoke started! The night got increasingly rowdy (someone vomited). Everyone joined in for the timeless classic CH AUTOSET PROCEEDING and an acapela-Glee-style Don't Stop Believing. Highlights of karaoke include Salease Johnson and Tim Matta’s Ebony and Ivory as well as Capital Reporting +SWEETE with Total Eclipse of the Heart. Upon completion of Total Eclipse, Tony Soprano came over and told us we were awful. I left shortly after, and the rest is a mystery.

So how did we do? Well, we had 11 paid guests which means we made $110. Barry, the manager, who appeared out of nowhere gave us a $40 tip for being so awesome even though maybe we shared our drinks with non-paying guests. Fellow gentleman and supporters later contributed a total of $90 in the office putting our total fundraising amount at $240.

Special thanks to our supporters: Sanj and Alex, Adam Crooney from London (who rocked the table at flip flop), Wayne, Cate’s 10+friends, other pals who came including my pal Naman and the GA non-GOTY members.
