2010 DACCTTRANS Gentleman of the Year Competition Agreement

Agreement entered into as of ___________, between individuals seeking to be named the 2010 DACCTTRANS Gentleman of the Year (“Participants”).

WHEREAS, Participants agree to engage in a series of challenges, agreed upon in advance. The challenges will be used to determine the individual who is the Gentleman of the Year (“GOTY”).

WHEREAS, the purpose of this challenge is to determine the DACCTTRANS member who has the abilities of a renaissance man/woman while also enjoying in gentlemanly competition.

WHEREAS, Each month will consist of a challenge in the name of determining which participant has the skills of a renaissance man/woman. The challenge will be a series of predetermined events to be scored individually and accumulated to determine the winner of the challenge.

THEREFORE, participants agree to the following terms set forth herein:

1.      EVENTS & CHALLENGES

(a)   Prior to the commencement of the competition, listing of events and challenges will be compiled and distributed. See Appendix A.
(b)   Prior to the commencement of the competition, a tentative schedule of events will be distributed. See Appendix B.
(c)   Due to the volume and timespan of events, it may be necessary to make adjustments throughout the course of the competition.
(d)   Adjustments made subsequent to the commencement of the competition must be unanimously agreed upon by all participants and updated in the shared appendix document.
(e)   Judging/Overlording
a.      Events and challenges will be selected with no or minimal amount of subjectivity.
b.      In the event that a contest is subjective a judge may be necessary.
c.      In the event that advanced preparation is necessary for the event an overlord may be selected.
d.      The judge/overlord will be selected as an individual who is impartial, unbiased and generally does not care about the outcome of the competition.
e.      If any participants, acting as gentleman, feel that the judge/overlord does not fulfill the aforementioned criteria, a new judge/overlord will be selected.
f.        If under any circumstances the judge/overlord attempts to persuade a participant to act ungentlemanly, that individual is to be instructed of the participants gentlemanly status an not asked to be a judge/overlord in the future.
(f)     Scheduling & Location
a.      Events and challenges may take place during or outside of working hours and location.
b.      Efforts will be made to accommodate the availability and locality of participants.
c.      In the event that a participant is not able to attend an event due to scheduling conflicts, the individual is to accept the loss as a gentleman and understand that if they really are a true renaissance man/woman, one event would not affect the outcome.
(g)   Events that result in a group or individual cost will be reviewed for necessity and reasonableness however there may be mandatory participation costs.

2.      SCORING

(a)    Individual participants in each event will be awarded points based on their performance.
(b)    The event points will be accumulated to determine the standings for each monthly challenge.
(c)    The challenge points will be accumulated to determine Gentleman of the Year (“GOTY”).
(d)    Points will be awarded for events and challenges as follows (tentative):

6            Third
4            Fourth
2            Fifth
In the event of a tie, both individuals will receive the same point value.  NOTE: point values and the amount of places scoring points are subject to change until it is determined how many gentlemen will be participating in GOTY.
(e)    Points will be maintained in shared excel document.


3.      ADMINISTRATIVE ROLES

(a)   A volunteer planning committee will assemble preliminary guidelines as well as address concerns and manage participation agreements.
(b)   Monthly roles will be required in order to ensure proper planning for each event and challenge.
a.      Event Manager – This position will determine the location and details of the monthly events. The Event Manager will obtain a judge/overlord when necessary.
b.      Administrative Coordinator – This position will organize and distribute time and location materials to all participants. The administrative Coordinator will also collect participation fees and make reservations as necessary.
(c)   All participants will be required to take on one or more monthly role at any point in the competition.
(d)   Participants may sign-up for a monthly role in the shared document.
(e)   In the event that all roles are not fulfilled, which would never happen because all participants are gentleman, the volunteer planning committee may nominate participants to assume the open roles.

4.      PARTICIPATION

(a)   Participants must confirm their participation in the contest by Friday, January 15.
(b)   Participation is confirmed by returning a signed copy of the participation agreement. See Appendix C.
(c)   Participation agreements will be notarized and scanned to a shared file.
(d)   Once an individual has committed to participation, a participant cannot remove him/herself from competition.

5.      UNGENTLEMANLY CONDUCT

(a)   If a participant is found to be ungentlemanly, that individual will be banished as a non-gentleman from future events and challenges.
(b)   In order to be found ungentlemanly, a participant may be participating in ungentlemanly conduct in one or more functions.
(c)   ungentlemanly conduct includes but is not limited to:
a.      Cheating, lying or competing in a dishonorable manner
b.      Not fulfilling an administrative role to the best of an individual’s abilities, or in the event an individual “craps the bed” in regards to their responsibilities.
c.      Keeping it real while keeping it wrong
d.      Acting in collusion with another participant or judge/overlord.
(d)   All participants must agree that an individual is ungentlemanly. Note: it is not ungentlemanly to vote an individual ungentlemanly if he/she is not truly not a gentleman.
(e)   Behavior in the manner of a drip is not ungentlemanly but it is weak.

6.      OUTCOME

(a)   The participant with the most challenge points at the end of the contest will be determined the GOTY.
(b)   The GOTY will be awarded with the following:
a.      Pride.
b.      A framed photograph will be prominently displayed in the cubicles or offices of other participants.
c.      A party will be held in his/her honor.
