2010 Gentleman of the Year Challenge Details

January – Academia
·         Spelling Bee – Gentlemen will compete in a 25 word written spelling test.  The words will be read aloud and chosen by the proctor.  The tests will be graded, and the gentlemen with the five highest scores (plus ties) will compete in an oral spelling bee.  Format of the oral competition will mirror that of the annual Scripp’s National Spelling Bee.  The donning of oversized, untucked, white polo shirts and large yellow signs around the neck is encouraged.

·         Social Studies/Civics Quiz – Gentlemen must complete an approximately 8th grade level social studies quiz, as chosen by the Overlord.  Gentlemen will also be asked to list the U.S. presidents in order.  Worksheets will be provided.

·         Math Skills – This will be a two part challenge:
1.      My Dear Aunt Sally Speed Drill – Gentlemen will receive a worksheet with 300 simple multiplication, division (no remainders), addition, and subtraction questions and will have three minutes to answer as many questions as possible.  A calculator is not permitted.
2.      SAT Practice Test – Gentlemen will receive a sample SAT math section and will have 30 minutes to answer as many questions as possible.  A four-function/non-scientific calculator is permitted.  Unlimited scratch paper is allowed, but each gentleman is responsible for providing his or her own scratch paper.

February – Drinking
·         Night #1: Beer Guy and Flip Cup – Gentlemen will convene in the basement of The Parlour to compete in two events.  The first event of the night is a singles beer guy tournament.  The rules will be explained on-site, but basically all you need to know is that it’s a gentleman’s game.  Following the conclusion of the beer guy tournament, the flip cup competition will commence.  Format will be every gentleman for him or herself, with the last place finishers each round going head to head to determine who is eliminated.

·         Night #2: Beer Pong and Quarters – Gentlemen will reconvene in the basement of The Parlour to compete in two events.  The first event of the night is a singles beer pong tournament (six cup).  Following the conclusion of the beer pong tournament, a singles quarters tournament will commence.

March – Sports Betting
·         CentSports Betting – Gentlemen will compete in a sports betting competition on CentSports.com.  The competition will follow the same format as the 2009 DACCTTRANS Q3 Challenge.  The competition will run for two work weeks (Monday 3/1 – Friday 3/5, and Monday 3/8 – Friday 3/12).  Gentlemen will be ranked based on their cumulative return on their bets over the course of the two weeks.

·         March Madness Pool – Gentlemen will enter in Brian Ruscin’s annual March Madness pool.  Although the rules of Mr. Ruscin’s pool state that entrants may submit up to three brackets, gentlemen must denote a single bracket before the tournament starts to be used for the purposes of GOTY.  Gentlemen will be ranked based on the final standings of Mr. Ruscin’s pool.

April – Un-incubated Domestic Fowl Zygote Games
·         Egg Hunt – Gentlemen will compete in a plastic egg hunt on the 31st floor of 1515 Broadway.  Eggs will be hidden by a third party who is impartial and generally doesn’t care.  Eggs can be hidden in any neutral area or in “egg-friendly”offices/cubes, which will be designated by a paper egg on the door or entrance.  Winners will be determined based on the number of eggs found.

·         Egg & Spoon Race – Gentlemen will compete in a footrace will balancing an egg in a teaspoon.  Gentlemen will be divided into heats, with the top five times from all heats advancing to the final.  Location and course layout TBD.

May – Fake Sports
·         Bowling – Gentlemen will convene at Leisure Time Bowl and play two 10-frame rounds of bowling.  The gentlemen with the highest average score will be the winners.  Although it is not required, it is widely acknowledged that gentlemen consume multiple beer towers while bowling.

·         Interoffice Athletics – Gentlemen will compete in four disciplines:
1.      Cornhole – format will be a double elimination tournament.  Each match will be best of five sets, five throws per set.  In the event a set is tied, the set will be decided by sudden death throws.
2.      Free Throws – format will be a double elimination tournament.  Each match will be best of three sets, 10 shots per set.  Gentlemen will alternate every five shots.  In the event a set is tied, the set will be decided by three shot overtime periods.
3.      Target Practice – each gentleman will shoot three rounds of target practice using the standard Nerf gun and target.  Each round will consist of 10 shots.  A point system based on accuracy will be devised, and the gentlemen with the highest number of points will be the winners.
4.      Chair Race – each gentleman will do a complete lap around the 31st floor of 1515 Broadway in the office chair of his or her choice.  Propulsion method is up to the discretion of the gentleman, but it must be completely autonomous (i.e. no props allowed).  The gentlemen who complete the lap in the fastest time will be the winners.

June – Miscellaneous Fun/Run
·         Scavenger Hunt/Amazing Race – TBD

·         Miniature Golf – Gentlemen will convene at a miniature golf course (TBD) and play an 18-hole round.  Gentlemen with the lowest cumulative strokes will be the winners.

·         Corporate Challenge – Gentlemen will compete in the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge 5K road race.  Gentlemen with the fastest times will be the winners.

July – Real Sports
·         Football: Punt, Pass, & Kick – Gentlemen will compete in the three disciplines of punting, passing, and kicking.  Each gentleman will have three attempts in each discipline.  Scoring will be in accordance with the office Punt, Pass, and Kick scoring guidelines.  Scoring will be adjusted based on the gender of the gentleman.  Location TBD.

·         Soccer: Dribbling Obstacle Course – Gentlemen will dribble a soccer ball through a designated course.  Gentlemen who complete the course in the fastest time will be the winners.  Location TBD.

·         Basketball: Knockout – Gentlemen will compete in a knockout competition.  (Rules will be explained on-site for those gentlemen who are unfamiliar.)  Three games will be played, and the gentlemen with the highest average place finish will be the winners.  Location TBD.

·         Tennis: King of the Court – An equal number of gentlemen will line up in a single-file line at the baseline on each side of the court.  The first gentleman will hit the ball over the net and run to the other side.  The gentleman on the other side of the net must return the shot over the net and run to the other side.   The process repeats until the ball is hit into the net or out of bounds.  The gentleman that hits the ball into the net or out of bounds is eliminated.   Once only two gentlemen remain, those two gentlemen will play a series of points, first one to five.  Three games will be played, and the gentlemen with the highest average place finish will be the winners.  Location TBD.

August – Picnic Games
·         Water Balloon Toss – Gentlemen will convene in Central Park and will be paired off at random.  Pairs will stand approximately 10 feet apart and toss a water balloon back and forth.  If the balloon does not burst after these two throws, each gentleman will take a step back, and the process will be repeated until the balloon bursts.  The gentleman responsible for bursting the balloon will be eliminated.  Either the thrower or the catcher can be deemed responsible for bursting the balloon, and the determination should be handled in a gentlemanly manner.  Once a gentleman is eliminated from each pair, the remaining gentlemen will again be paired off at random until only one gentleman remains.

·         Eating Contest – Gentlemen will convene in Central Park to attempt to consume a TBD, identical five-course meal.  The gentlemen that consume the entire meal the fastest will be the winners.  In the event no one is able to consume the entire meal in the allotted time, the gentlemen who consume the highest percentage of the meal will be the winners.

·         Chubby Bunny Contest – Each gentleman will place a marshmallow in his or her mouth and attempt to say the phrase “chubby bunny.”  If the marshmallow is dislodged from the gentleman’s mouth or the words are completely unintelligible, the gentleman will be eliminated.  Remaining gentlemen will add a marshmallow to his or her mouth and repeat the process until a winner is determined.

September – Playground Fitness
·         Hula Hoop Contest – Gentlemen will convene in Bryant Park and take three attempts on each the hula hoop.  Gentlemen with the highest average time spent in the apparatus will be declared the winners.  Post-competition drinks as Bryant Park Grill are strongly encouraged.

·         Jump Rope Contest – See “Hula Hoop Contest” section above, and swap “jump rope” for “hula hoop.”

·         Presidential Physical Fitness Test – Gentlemen will compete in the traditional events, minus the mile run.  These events are: curl-ups, push-ups (shuttle run?), pull ups, and the sit and reach.  This event will take place on the 31st floor of 1515 Broadway.  Winners will be based upon the official Presidential Physical Fitness normative scoring grid.

October – Halloween Fun/Bar Games
·         Jar Candy Guessing Contest – A third party will fill a jar (size of his or her choosing) with candy corn.  The number of candy corn in the jar will be known only to the third party.  Gentlemen will have until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 29th to submit a guess of how many candy corn are in the jar.  Gentlemen with the most accurate guesses will be the winners.

·         Bobbing for Apples – Buckets will be filled with water and a predetermined number of apples.  Gentlemen will have five minutes to remove as many apples from the bucket as possible using only his or her mouth.  Gentlemen who remove the highest number of apples will be the winners.

·         Bar Games – Gentlemen will convene at a TBD bar to compete in four disciplines:
1.      Big Buck Hunter – gentlemen with the highest total score will be the winners.
2.       Darts – each gentleman will take five rounds of three throws.  The gentlemen with the highest scores will be the winners.
3.      Erotic Photo Hunt – each gentleman will take a turn playing erotic photo hunt.  The gentlemen with the best scores will be the winners.

November – Wholesome Family Fun
·         Board Games – Gentlemen will compete in a variety of TBD board games.

·         Wii – Gentlemen will compete in a Wii-based game show/trivia game.

·         Sudoku and Crossword Puzzle – Each gentleman will complete an identical Sudoku and crossword puzzle.  The gentlemen to complete each puzzle in the fastest time will be the winners.  Separate winners will be determined for each discipline.  In the event no gentleman can complete either puzzle, the gentlemen with the highest percentage of completion will be the winners.

·         Poker Tournament – Gentlemen will compete in a Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament.  Each gentleman will receive a predetermined number of poker chips.  Once a gentleman runs out of chips, he or she is eliminated.  The gentlemen who remain in the game the longest will be the winners.  Or if after a set amount of time, multiple gentlemen still have chips, the winners will be determined based on chip count.

December – Feats of Engineering/Geometry
·         Bridge Building Contest – Each gentleman will receive a set number of popsicle sticks.  Gentlemen will gather in a conference room and have one hour to assemble a bridge that will hold the most weight, using just popsicle sticks and glue.  Gentlemen whose bridges hold the most weight without collapsing will be the winners.

·         Gentlemen will compete in some or all of the following disciplines (to be determined by the group):

·         Ping Pong Tournament
·         Air Hockey Tournament
·         Foosball Tournament
